about

Recorded in Toronto in July 2016 with producer Derek Downham (Broken Social Scene, Holy F*ck). During these Toronto sessions, they produced their latest single ‘Head Above Water’ a driving track that has superb thick reverb slide guitar guiding the dreamy melody over the energetic, driving drums. The two’s vocals blend beautifully through the hypnotic lyrics and from this, evokes long summer days spent by the water having a break from the world. The song is about society’s quest to try and live in the present within the constant crazy pace of the modern day world.

lyrics

The river's peaking on a summer’s day
Dip in your face
Have a taste
I'm pouring myself down the rapids
On my lilo
Maybe I made a mistake
Swimming with my head above the water
Baby I can see
I can breathe
And feeling the sun on my back and my belly
Well it's my favourite thing

Sometimes it takes a village to raise a few
Sometimes it takes a person that really needs you
Sometimes it takes a village to raise a few
Sometimes it takes a person that really needs you

Everyone has the same relaxed expression cause they’re all in time yeah
Oh they living in the present aren't they

It leaves you wondering how it came to this
What did we miss
What did we miss
We've been living in fast forward
Where's the remote so I can pause it
Well it's been lost for some time now
Maybe it's hiding, down the side of the couch
I'd love to stop here and just jump off
To Take stock
To take stock

Sometimes it takes a village to raise a few
Sometimes it takes a person that really needs you
Sometimes it takes a village to raise a few
Sometimes it takes a person that really needs you

Everyone has the same relaxed expression cause they're all in time yeah
Oh they're living in the present aren't they
Everyone has the same relaxed expression cause they're all in time yeah
Oh they're living in the present aren't they
